Swayambhuvamanu is the son of Brahma. He is an aspect of Srihari Mahavishnu. Sadrupa is his wife. They had two sons, Uttanapathan and Priyavirathan.
Uttanapathan grew up and became the
king of the country. He has two wives. His
first wife is Surusi, second wife is Sunithi. Uttamana is son of Surusi. Dhurvan
is son of Sunithi.
King Uttanapathan loved Surusi more
than Sunithi. So Uttamana, the son of Surusi, will always sit on his lap.
One day Uttanapathan was sitting o
His big mother Surusi stopped him
from sitting. She said to him, ‘You are the son of Sunithi. You have no right
to sit in the lap of the king’. To get that right, you have to be born my son.
Therefore, pray to Lord Mahavishnu and practice spiritual achievements. Thereby
she has said that you will be born as my son in the next birth.
Tears welled up in Dhurvan's eyes.
Crying, he went to his mother. When she heard what had happened, she too
regretted not doing it. She put him on her lap and calmed him down a bit.
Then she said, 'Baby! Don't cry. Do
not hate your big mother for saying that. He who afflicts others will suffer
later. She will find peace when she speaks angrily to you? But one thing! Son,
she was right.
‘The king does not see me at all.
Therefore, Surusi was right to say that Srihari should be worshiped with a
unanimous mind. I do not know any other way than this to receive the love of
the king. Brahma also attained his position by worshiping the lotus feet of
Srihari. Many Rishis meditate on the lotus feet of Lord Vishnu.
Therefore, you too will dedicate
your mind to the lotus feet of Srihari. Only he can erase your suffering. '
Dhurvan had full confidence in what
his mother said. Without wasting any time he left the kingdom and went to the forest.
The god Naradha, who was very close to the true devotees of the Lord, met
Dhuvan who was going to the forest. Dhurvan expressed his intention to Naradha.
To which Naradhar replied, 'Dhurvan,
child, you are very young. Are you going to repent? Isn’t thapas the hardest
thing to do? Seeing the Lord is even harder than that.
‘It is difficult to attain that Lord
even for the sages who are always intensely penitent. So, child, dedicate your
whole being to that Lord, thinking that the Lord will do as He has commanded
you. That will give you better wisdom. '
But those words of his did not
pacify Dhurvan. He did not back down from his goal and said, 'My big mother
insulted me so much. My mind is so restless. There is not the slightest peace
of mind. At this point their words never crossed my mind. Devarishi Naradha,
you are the son of the four-faced Brahma. Bless me to see the Lord! ‘He said.
Naradhar was very pleased to see the
determination of the boy Dhurvan. He said, 'Child, you are not a little sure of
what you have taken. I was very happy to see it. One can attain Lord Vishnu by
worshiping and meditating on Lord Vishnu.
You go to Madhuvan on the banks of the river Yamuna. Srihari is there always.
Call him with all your heart. You will meditate with a focused mind on Lord
Vishnu, who possesses the Satrubhujas and returns with the qualities of Anantha
Kalyana.
He always chanted the mantra
"Om Namo Bhagavade Vasudevaya".
Naradha's teachings sank deep into
Dhurvan's mind. He bowed to Naradha and left for the bar. There he was actively
meditating and meditating. The gods trembled when they saw it.
Six months passed like this. Seeing
his meditation, Lord Srivishnu was very happy and decided to appear in front of
him. Lord Karunamurti appeared before Dhuvan.
Dhuvan was very pleased to see Lord
Srivishnu with his captivating beauty. Immediately fell at his feet and
surrendered. He wanted to praise the Lord. But he did not know how to praise
because he was so young.
Lord Srihari rubbed the cheeks of
the Dhurvan with his sangha. Thereby the Vedas Dhurvan received wisdom
perfectly. To embrace he began to praise Lord Srivishnu.
The Lord was very pleased with Dhurvan
and wanted to give Dhurvan the gift he was asking for. He said, 'Child Dhuvan,
you will sit on your father's throne. Your soul will rule the country for a
long time. After the end of your worldly life, you will leave the body, which
meditated on me and go to the realm of light that no one has ever reached.
‘There are many other sages who had become a light of wisdom around that place. You will shine as a pole star. That zone is stable. From there you will not have to return to this world. Even if the universe perishes, that place will not perish. '
After giving the boon, the Lord went to Vaikuntha.
Dhurvan parted ways with his father
to worship Lord Vishnu. He was not happy that his wish was fulfilled. Instead
of asking for the gift of attaining bliss by seeing the Lord, he regretted that
he had heard of this worldly kingdom in a trance.
When the king heard that his son Dhurvan
was returning from meditation, he took the beautiful chariots and sent his
minister.
Went to the frontier of the city with the chiefs to welcome him.
From Naradha, the king learned about
the intense thapas performed by Dhurvan and that Lord Mahavishnu had appeared
before Dhuvan and blessed him.
The king, knowing that his son was
now returning to the city, was overjoyed. He embraced his son. Tears fell up in
his eyes. King Uthanapathan hired elephant and brought Dhurvan it to the city
with great respect. Days passed. Later, Uttanapathan went to the forest to
meditate and do thapas. Dhurvan also ruled the country well in the path laid
down by the Lord.
Uttamana, the brother of Dhuvan and
son of Surusi, was killed by a Yakshan when he went hunting. Surusi, who went
in search of him, also died. The Dhurvan was furious and saddened to learn that
they were dead. Wanting to punish the Yaksha, Dhuvan attacked Alakapuri, the
land of the Yakshas.
The war was very intense. Tens of
thousands of Yakshas were killed in it. Swayambhuvamanu, the grandfather of Dhurvan,
asked
In the name of possession, Dhurvan stopped killing the Yakshas. Thus the war
came to an end.
Kubera, the king of the Yakshas,
was also very happy with the Dhurvan’s stop of the war. He offered to give a
boon to him. Dhuvan said, 'I must always remember Lord Srimaha Vishnu. This is
the gift I want. '
Kubera also gladly gave him the gift
he asked for.
Dhurvan is an excellent Rajarishi. He
saw the Lord as equal in himself and in others. He ruled the kingdom for a long
time and handed over the kingdom to his son.
Then he went to the forest to
meditate on the Lord. At his last moment the messengers of Vishnu appeared
there and took him to the polar world at Vishnu's Vaikuntha.
The pole star that still shines in
the sky today reminds us of the great devotee Dhurvan.
